About Me

I write, teach and teach writing outside of Cleveland, Ohio.  A lot of my professional life is devoted to fostering Experiential Education opportunities for high school students and adults.  As part of that work, I direct a venerable Outdoor Leadership program, certify Wilderness First Responders, create courses using the outdoors,  consult on risk management and curriculum development, and lead international experiences for my students.

My essays and poems often wrestle with "twoness", the paradoxes of science and faith, the persistence of the past in the present, and the possibility of growth from trauma.  My memoir I Have Not Loved You With My Whole Heart  is forthcoming from Oregon State University Press in 2021
